Welcome Mr. Chuck Colson to the SALLT Board of Reference
Wes Lane, the president of the Salt and Light Leadership Training Academy, Inc (SALLT) announced today (6.20.2011) the addition of Mr. Chuck Colson to SALLT's newly formed Board of Reference. SALLT, which began in Oklahoma City in 2008 is a leadership program designed for community leaders seeking to work in collaboration to be "salt and light" in their cities. The inspiration of the program was the success of William Wilberforce and the Clapham Circle who worked together to eradicate slavery from the British Empire.
Mr. Colson, once known as the "hatchet man" for President Nixon became a Christian in 1974 following his role in the Watergate scandal. It was in the same year that Colson entered a plea of guilty to Watergate-related charges. Although not implicated in the Watergate burglary, he voluntarily pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice. He served seven months of a one-to-three year sentence in Alabama's Maxwell Prison.
In 1976, he founded Prison Fellowship Ministries (now PFM), which is the largest outreach program to prisoners, ex-prisoners, crime victims, and their families. He has written over 20 books which have collectively sold over five million copies. In recent years, Colson has focused his efforts on the value of developing a Christian worldview, and to the training of a new generation of leaders to contemplate how to renew the church and revitalize culture.
